Lumogarnets

Lumogarnets are a class of hyperfluorescent repurposed lab garnets introduced into the jewelery trade by Stephen and Timothy Challener of Angry Turtle Jewelry in 2022. The three we offer at House of Sylas are cerium doped LuAG, high glow cerium doped GAGG, and cerium doped YAG. All three lab garnets are types of scintillators. Scintillators glow in the presence of invisible radiation, and the brighter they glow, the more radiation present. Lumogarnets are durable (mohs 8-8.5), safe, and the brightest gems you will find anywhere.

LuAG

Cerium doped LuAG (Lutetium aluminium garnet) is a hyperfluorescent green garnet. It is so fluorescent it will emit a glowing green color under almost any lighting condition. In sunlight it will emit a strong green glow, as well as under blacklight. It has a mohs hardness of 8.5.

LuAG
GAGG

Cerium doped GAGG (Gadolinium Aluminum Gallium Garnet) is a hyperfluorescent garnet with a color between green LuAG and yellow Cerium YAG. Some special varieties of GAGG (High Glow GAGG) have a special manufacturing defect, they will photoluminesce for extended periods of time (GLOW IN THE DARK) after being exposed to radiation from the sun or blacklight. GAGG will fluoresce a bright yellow color under black light. It has a mohs hardenss of 8.

GAGG
Cerium YAG

Cerium doped YAG (Yttrium Aluminum Garnet) is a hyperflourescent yellow garnet, with bright yellow flourescence. Like all other lumogarnets it will flouresce in the sun and most other lighting conditions. It has a mohs hardness of 8.5.
